The Roman Colosseum, Arch of Constantine & The Altare della Patria

The icon of Rome, Amphitheatrum Flavium or the Flavian Amphitheater is more commonly known as the Colosseum. 





This monument was constructed in 80 AD on the site of Nero’s palace by Emperor Vespasian. Built to gain popularity through staging of deadly gladiator combats and wild animal fights. Over 9000 wild animals were killed in the years use. 















The Colosseum can hold 50,000 people and were seated according to rank. 





Visit early to avoid the crowds and wear comfortable shoes as you’ll need to climb steps and the floor isn’t smooth as it is an old building.  


 

 

 The Arch of Constantine or Arco Constantino was built in 315 AD to celebrate the victory at the Battle of Milvian Bridge. It is one of Imperial Rome’s last monuments. 




The Altare della Patria or Monumento a Vittorio Emmanuel II was built in 1885 in honor of the the first king of unified Italy.
