Coffee Crawl : Tokyo's Shibuya
3:02 PM
The iconic Shibuya intersection is a must stop for any tourist visiting Tokyo. Just steps away from it are the Shibuya Tsutaya Starbucks and L’Occitane Cafe. You can stop to watch the Shibuya scramble from their store windows. Around the area among the many shops and restaurants are also several good coffee spots.
On my last visit to the city, I was able to do a few coffee crawls and here are my favourites in Shibuya.
The Cream of the Crop Coffee
Located on the ground floor of a department store Shibuya Hikarie, it’s a little harder to spot from the street. Close to the entrance though and just a short walk from Shibuya Station (closest exit is 15). The mall should be outside the exit.
The Cream of the Crop has a couple of tables for seating. They offer hand drip and espresso beverages. They also have teas and have a a selection of pastries.

The Local Coffee Stand
Head on after to The Local Coffee Stand. It’s a short 5-10 minute walk from The Cream of the Crop. As you exit Shibuya Hikarie from Cream of the Crop, turn left and walk to the main road (2nd corner) then take a left to go up the Main road, stay on the left side and walk about 5 minutes up Aoyama Dori. You’ll see about 3 overhead pedestrian lanes. You should see The Local Coffee Stand on the right side of the road after the 3rd one.
This is one of my favorite coffee spots in Tokyo. They’ve got cute interiors and good coffee. It’s a small shop and have just a few tables inside. They also have a 2nd floor (not sure if there are tables there as that section was closed during my visit. Luckily, there were available seats when I went so I was able to enjoy my coffee inside the store. They also have coffee roasting inside the store. A definite must stop.

About Life Coffee Brewers
One of the best coffee in Shibuya, About Life Coffee Roasters is a coffee stand just blocks from Shibuya Crossing. They only serve coffee. Choose from Espresso, Ameicano, White Latte, drip coffee, quick brew, and cold brew. There is one bench so seating is very limited. Most people just stand and get rest their drinks on the shallow ledge inside or take their coffee to go.
This coffee stand is quite a walk from The Local Coffee Stand but only a few blocks if coming from the Shibuya Crossing. If visiting after The Local Coffee Stand head on back the way you came from and head towards the Hachiko Statue and crossing. From the crossing, head left towards Shibuya 109. The side of L’Occitane Cafe and BIC Camera. Take the road on the left of the Shibuya 109 and head a few blocks. About Life Coffee Roasters is on the left of the road.
