Navitravel
for Japan - Good and dependable app for train travel and travel basics.
Google
translate - You'll need internet connection but i've found very helpful to read Japanese labels.
Fuji
time – It lets you know when you can spot Mt. Fuji from your Sanyo-Hokkaido
Shinkansen seat. You just input the time and station of your departure.

Must Visit Stores:
1. Daiso or 100 yen stores – get random things
at 100-Yen store. You can get Washi Stickers made in Japan for only 100 yen.
2. Don Quijote – this budget department store
has loads of departments from luggages, clothes, stationary to food items. You
can get great cheap finds here. The store facade itself usually doesn't have an english signage. You can easily spot it by finding the Penguin Logo.
3. Uniqlo - This Japanese clothing brand is a must for your basics.
4. Tokyu Hands – lifestyle creative store – a
paradise for the crafty, Tokyu Hands has different levels of all sort of things
for your life from cosmetics, travel, to creative supplies and tools.
5. BIC Camera or Yodabashi for electronics - These multi-level haven for electronics is a definite must stop. Even if you just want to window shop and admire the amount of products you can check out. They have for example rows upon rows of cellphone cases, camera equipment, headphones that could make your head spin.
6. Daikokuya – bookstore – a good store to visit
is the one on Shinjuku where it’s near Tokyu Hands and Takashiyama Times Square
and a short walk from the Southern Terrace Exit of the JR Shinjuku train
station
7. Muji –visit is the one in Shibuya which is a
multi-level store where they also have the Muji Café. The basement level is connected
to the Loft.
