SHOPPING IN BALI:
Stores usually close
at 10 PM. Markets would close a bit earlier. Good areas to shop in are in Ubud,
Seminyak, and Kuta.
In Ubud, the Pasar
Umum Ubud also known as the Ubud Art Market is a good place to shop for
traditional Balinese art and handicrafts like Batik. You can also see flowers sold by the gram
used in their offerings sold throughout the market. The market itself is
divided into a couple of buildings. The market is right on the main road and is
close to the Saraswati Temple.
There are a lot of
outlet stores for brands like Lacoste, Havaianas, and many surf brands like
Roxy, Billabong, and Ripcurl. A number of outlets are on the main road JI
Regian which is in Kuta and is on the way to Seminyak from the airport. Just
tell the taxi driver and they’ll usually know where to take you.
Malls are mostly
located in Kuta like Kuta Beachwalk (big mall with many middle range to high
end stores), Kuta Square (has outlet stores) and Discovery Shopping Mall. You
can also shop in many stores around in Seminyak.
You can haggle at
the market sometimes up to 50% of the price depending too on the quantity
you’re buying. We were able to buy sarongs between 20,000 to 50,000 IDR.
