Caffeine Fix : Kyoto
6:16 PM
Always on the search for the next caffeine fix, i love exploring great coffee in each city I vist. Here is a list of my favorite coffee shops in Kyoto.
% ARABICA
I first tried their coffee 2 years ago when I visited Kyoto with some friends. I had initially wanted to try it in their Arashiyama shop but they had a long line and I had limited time. I made sure though on my last day to stop by their Fuji Daimaru branch since I figured the line would be short and it was the easiest to access by train. It was definitely worth the detour. So on my last visit to Kyoto, despite the really long line in their Arashiyama branch, I patiently waited for almost an hour for a good cup of coffee. Luckily this branch has an amazing view especially in Autumn.
Arabica started in historic Kyoto in 2014 and have now expanded to several locations in the middle east, Hong Kong, Philippines, and China. They have 3 shops in Kyoto - Higashiyama, Arashiyama, & Fuji-Daimaru. Their focus is on espresso beverages and have just a short lineup of beverages. You’ll notice their beautiful espresso machines and their signature world map in their shops.
% Arabica Arashiyama
Just a short walk from the Bamboo grove forest, Arabica Arashiyama is a scenic location to have a great cup of coffee. Right beside the river, you can see the beautiful togetsukyo bridge and see the Arashiyma Mountain. The view is even better during Autumn when the leaves have turned. Since it is located on so close to popular sights, this branch is usually packed and have long lines especially on weekends and in the afternoon.
The Arashiyama branch is small and only has a bench in front and a small nook (% room : Y1000 for 30 mins fits 4 people). It’s picture perfect location though and amazing coffee makes this my favourite branch.
A must try is their caffe latte. They offer Espresso, espresso machiatto, cafe latte, American & lemonade.

The one in Piece Hostel Sanjo is bigger and has plenty of seats. They also have plenty of merchandise.
I was staying at the Piece Hostel Sanjo on my last visit and the cafe was a great spot to wind down at the end of the night. They have two doors - one leads up to the street and another one directly connected to the hostel.
