The Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore is the Papal major basilica and largest Catholic Marian church.

With a blend of architectural styles from early Christian to Baroque. 

It has 5th century mosaics, a Renaissance ceiling and Baroque facade, dome and chapels. The present church dates back to the 5th century.

Under the high altar, is the Crypt of the Nativity.
