Kyoto's Kitchen: Nishiki Market

Nishiki Market is a 400 year old covered market and one of Japan’s iconic markets (Open until 6 PM) it’s a great place to sample Japanese delicacies like Matcha, tako tamago (octopus with a quail egg in the head ) , fresh seafood, pickled vegetables, fresh fruits & vegetables).

There are different sizes of the Tako Tamago available. 
Don’t forget  stop by and taste the sample of roasted chestnuts which are in season in autumn.













  Great market especially if you love Japanese food. Try their strawberries too.



One end of the market is near Daimaru. At the other end of Nishiki Market is a small temple Nishiki Tenmangu.

Hours of Operation: Open until 6 pm
Nearest Train Station: Shijo (exit 2:  9 min walk ) ; Karasuma (exit Daimaru – walk across Daimaru to get to street then turn right to Nishiki Market
