12:36 AM

One of the best times to visit Furano is in the summer when the picturesque rolling hills are in full bloom. Lavender and flower fields fill the view from Furano to its neighbor Biei. In the summer season, a special train station is opened called  "Lavende Bateke" or Lavender station. It is then an easy 5-10 minute walk to Farm Tomita - one of the most popular farms to visit.

When you get off Lavender Station, cross the tracks towards the melon greenhouses. Then turn left at the street, go straight until you cross a bridge then turn right. By this time you'll see the farm. The melon house is where you can enjoy some fresh cut melons for Y300 or 2 slices (green & red) for Y500, buy several pieces of a box full to bring home, enjoy some soft serve ice cream and other goodies. there are more goodies liked baked goods with melon like Melon bun. They also have a small kiosk selling Hokkaido corn. You have an option between white or yellow corn (Y600)

There are several areas of flower fields such as the Hanabito, Sakiwai , Spring, and autumn. There is one that's near the gift stores and food stalls. These flower field is on flat land. There are lots of lavender already in full bloom. there is also areas where you can watch or make potpourri and perfume also many gift shops and patches of flowers you can admire.

The Hanabito House has the most of the souvenir options like fresh, dried or potpourri lavender, lavender bath and sleep products, lavender home products like candles, room spray, and oils. The rapport house and flower house like in the gallery fleur and forest house have a variety of food items for sale like lavender ice cream (Y250 cup/Y300 cone) lavender milk Popsicle (Y190), lavender cream puff (Y250), melon ice cream, honey croissant, and fresh melons.

You can also go to the flower patches on the slope of the hill - The Irodori Field & Forest Field. This will be a little more of a climb than the one near the main entrance. There is a snack stall and small gift shop here too. On the slopes flower fields there are baby's breath, poppies, cornflowers, and many other flowers. the other area is called the traditional lavender garden.

Since the farms in the area are working farms, make sure to stick to designated pathways as not to destroy the plants. In Farm Tomita, there is rope act as borders.

Furano asides from it's lavender fields also boasts it's wine and cheese products. The Furano Winery and Cheese Factory are some must stops. Train stop closest is the Furano Station. They are a bit of a walk from the stations so you can opt on taking a sightseeing bus or a cab. These close a little early at around 5-6 depending on the season.
