COFFEE BREAK: TOKYO

3:00 PM

There are so many coffee shops and cafes to visit in Tokyo from the many coffee kiosks and different themed cafes. On every trip I take, I try to try seek out some of the local favourites. Here are just  few I loved to visit in Tokyo.

1. 100% Chocolate Café

A must stop for any chocolate lover. This Chocolate Café by Meiji is located in the company's headquarters is just a few steps from Exit 5 of Kyobashi Station of the Ginza Line. Here you can choose many chocolate concoctions like wafflate, chcocornet and chocolate drinks. They have limited seating.

You can also choose from their 56 piece chocolate collection. It features chocolates from various parts of the world like Uganda , Ghana, Columbia, Java, Bali, etc. The chocolate collection features single origin beans, variety of sweetener and milk. It also has a features Japanese flavored and European style chocolate flavors like Azumi, orange, rosehip. With a lot of options, it’s quite hard to choose. It’s a little pricier than chocolates in the grocery but it’s definitely worth it.

On my previous visit, I ordered the tasting menu. It had 3 chocolate drinks from different origins – Ghana, Brazil and Sulawesi. The information though was in Japanese. Thankfully I had a pocket wifi and was able to use the Google Translate app.

2. Be a Good Neighbor is a coffee kiosk with 3 branches in Tokyo – Sendagaya, Roppongi, and Skytree. They had a cute little kiosk in the Solamachi (the mall side) of the Tokyo Skytree.

It’s on the second floor beside the escalator. From the Oshiage (skytree) train station it’s on the way to the Skytree ticket counter and entrance.

Hours of Operation: Skytree: 10AM – 9PM

3. Streamer Coffee

Streamer Coffee has great coffee with many branches around Japan. I visited their Harajuku location. It’s about a 10 minute walk from Harajuku Station. This particular branch has a few seating and was a quiet place to stop.

4. Starbucks at the Shibuya Crossing

A great spot to watch the Shibuya scramble. This 2-floor Starbucks branch usually have a lot of people watching the Shibuya Crossing. As you exit Hachiko Exit of the JR Shibuya Station, you won't miss it as it is directly across the busy crossing. There are other cafe's with a view of the Shibuya Crossing, but the location of this coffee shop has a good vantage of the busy intersection.

View of the crossing from 2nd floor of train station.
Starbucks is directly across.
